
Jalpaiguri, 21 December (H.S.): A young woman died in a road accident while travelling on a motorcycle with her husband for the recruitment exam for Kolkata Police. Their four-year-old child was also with them. The approximately 70-kilometer journey on the motorcycle proved fatal. The accident occurred in Jalpaiguri district, where a 10-wheeled truck coming from behind ran over the woman.
The deceased woman has been identified as Madhabi Barman Sarkar (25). Her husband and four-year-old child survived the accident.
According to police and local sources, Madhabi Sarkar was a resident of Ghughu Danga Saha Para in Jalpaiguri. A recruitment exam for police constable positions was scheduled for Sunday in Dhupguri. She had left in the morning with her husband and child on a motorcycle to take the exam.
As per information, there is dense fog in the hilly areas of North Bengal during the mornings these days. On the day of the accident, there was also thick fog on the road. The distance from their home to the examination center was approximately 70 kilometers.
On Jalpaiguri-Haldibari state highway, near Ghughu Danga Saha Para, the motorcycle suddenly went out of control and crashed. All three fell onto the road. At that moment, a speeding truck coming from behind ran over Madhabi. She died on the spot. Her husband and child narrowly escaped.
After the accident, local people rushed to the spot and chased down the truck, apprehending the driver. The truck driver was taken into custody. On information, the police arrived at the scene, took custody of the body, and sent it to Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
