New Delhi, 21 December (H.S.): Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devendra Yadav on Sunday urged the Delhi government to end its jugglery with numbers on homeless shelters, asserting that ground realities expose the hollowness of official claims.
Referencing statements by Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, Yadav highlighted the discrepancy: while the government claims sleeping arrangements for over 20,000 homeless individuals, minimum standards require 50 square feet per person.
According to the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, available sleeping space totals only 441,198 square feet—sufficient for merely 8,823 people.Yadav demanded the government cease numerical manipulation and strictly enforce minimum standards in rain baseras, ensuring immediate provisions for women's safety, sanitation, food, and blankets.
