Hooghly, 21 December (H.S.): A woman's alleged lover stabbed her husband to death in Sherpur area under Mogra police station in Hooghly district of West Bengal. The deceased has been identified as Prasenjit Das (36).
According to local sources, a few years ago, Prasenjit's wife, Ratna Das, developed an extramarital affair with a young man named Subrata Bhakta from Balagarh. Prasenjit eventually discovered the affair, leading to frequent arguments between the couple and a strain on their marriage. They had been married for 14 years and had one child.
The deceased's mother, Kalpana Das, directly blamed her daughter-in-law's lover, Subrata Bhakta, for the entire incident. She alleged that on Saturday evening, around 7:30 PM, Subrata went to their house in a drunken state and started shouting loudly. He called out Prasenjit's name and used filthy language. When the younger son of the family objected, Subrata assaulted him.
At that moment, Prasenjit, who was returning home from work, saw his brother being beaten and rushed to his aid. A heated argument ensued between him and Subrata. Allegedly, during this argument, Subrata repeatedly stabbed Prasenjit with a knife.
Local residents immediately rushed the seriously injured Prasenjit to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police were then informed. On information, the police from the Mogra police station arrived at the scene, took the accused into custody, and began questioning him.
The deceased's sister has also expressed deep anger over the incident. She alleged that Ratna Das and Subrata had a long-standing affair and that the wife orchestrated her husband's murder through her lover.
The police are currently investigating the entire matter, and a tense atmosphere prevails in the area.
