Murshidabad, 2 December (H.S.): Ahead of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's visit to Murshidabad, Bharatpur Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir has once again made headlines for his controversial statement. He is accused of threatening the Beldanga Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and calling the police RSS agents. The SDPO has not commented on the matter.

On Tuesday, Humayun Kabir warned, Don't play with fire. I'm giving a clear warning to the police administration of Murshidabad district. SDPO Uttam Gorai, remember this is Murshidabad. You've been very aggressive in Bhagwangola, ruining the lives of many people. I know your entire history. Don't mess with Humayun Kabir. The day I grab you by the collar, there will be no one to save you.

In his statement, he accused the police administration, saying, When Kartik Puja and Jagadhatri Puja are held in Beldanga, this police—Mamata Banerjee's police—works with complete devotion. But when I announced a year ago that I would lay the foundation stone of the Babri Masjid in Beldanga, everyone started getting upset. Are the police acting at the behest of the BJP and RSS? Muslims vote for you, and you act as a broker for the RSS?

Humayun Kabir further said, On December 6th, the entire National Highway from Rejinagar to Brahmapur will be under my control, under the control of Muslims.

His statement has raised serious concerns about law and order.

This incident has further tensed the political atmosphere in Murshidabad. The opposition is calling it an attempt to intimidate the administration and polarize religions, while the controversy, just before the Chief Minister's visit, is putting the Trinamool Congress in an uncomfortable position.

TMC MP Kalyan Bandyopadhyay took a dig at Humayun Kabir, saying, That MLA has no value. The person the people of West Bengal trust the most is Mamata Banerjee.
