Guwahati, 02 December (HS):

Reiterating his commitment to an inclusive and culturally unified state, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday reaffirmed his pledge to build ‘Bor Asom’—a concept of Greater Assam that embraces every community living in the state.

Marking Asom Divas, Sarma paid homage to Chaolung Sukapha, the Ahom dynasty’s founder who arrived in Assam in 1228 AD and laid the civilisational foundation that shaped the state’s identity. In a message shared on X, the Chief Minister said the occasion serves as a reminder of Sukapha’s vision and the collective responsibility to build an Assam that is “proud, strong, and united.”

Sarma also expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for greeting the people of Assam on the occasion. He noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the “double-engine government” has consistently worked to safeguard and promote the legacy of the Ahom era on global platforms.

In his message, Shah extended “warm wishes to our sisters and brothers of Assam,” describing Asom Divas as a tribute to a glorious chapter of history. He highlighted the Centre’s efforts in restoring peace, driving development and transforming Assam into a rising centre of education and innovation. Such progress, he said, reflects a commitment to strengthening cultural pride and national unity.

Adding to the day’s announcements, the Chief Minister declared that Su-Ka-Pha University would soon be renamed Su-Ka-Pha University. The step, he said, aligns with the broader vision of advancing diverse fields of learning as part of building the ‘Bor Asom’ long imagined by Sargadev Su-Ka-Pha.
