Bhubaneswar, 2 December (H.S.): The Commissionerate Police have submitted a 700-page chargesheet in the high-profile murder case of woman constable Shubhamitra Sahoo.
The chargesheet names her husband, Deepak Raut, as the main accused, along with several of his associates. Statements of 42 witnesses have been recorded, and charges have been framed under relevant sections of the BNS Act: 103(1), 238, and 61(2).
According to the chargesheet, evidence was collected from both the crime scene and the location where Shubhamitra’s body was recovered. This includes forensic reports, witness statements, the couple’s court marriage certificate, and photographs documenting their relationship.
Investigators revealed that a financial dispute arose after Deepak took a loan from Shubhamitra, which allegedly led him to plan her murder. After her death, he reportedly purchased an insurance policy worth ₹1.25 crore, allegedly to claim the amount. Deepak is also accused of attempting to destroy evidence, with assistance from the co-accused.
Shubhamitra, who was serving in the Traffic DCP office, Commissionerate Police, went missing on September 6. Her decomposed body was later found in the Keonjhar forest.
The police have stated that they will present several witnesses in court to substantiate the evidence against the accused and prove their involvement in the crime.
