Kochi, 17 December (HS) : Malappuram district, popularly known as “Kerala’s own Pakistan”, has become a no man’s land for Hindus after the election to the local self-government institutions held on 11th December, the results of which were declared early this week.

All the LSGIs that include, District Panchayat, Municipalities, Block Panchayats and Grama Panchayats in Malappuram district were bagged by the Congress-led United Democratic Front, thanks to the presence of Muslim League.

Since then the Indian National Congress and Muslim League have made their opposition and resentment towards Hindu public.

The slogans raised during the victory rally held at Edavanna in the district gave enough signals in this regard as the Muslim League and Congress workers raised slogans against the playing of devotional songs from temples in the early morning hours and evenings.

When the rally reached in front of the Maha Vishnu Temple, the participants raised slogans demanding the discontinuation of playing devotions songs from the temple. “You play the songs within the four walls of the temple. No sound should come out of the temple,” demanded the participants in the rally.

The temple authorities said that they have been playing the devotional songs with official permission issued by the police and observing the mandatory requirements specified by the police. “Till date nobody has complained about the playing of the songs, “ said a temple official.

A Sanskrit scholar based in the district said that Kerala is fast turning out to be the Kashmir of the 1980s, 1990s and first two decades of the new millennium. “The day is not far off when the Congress and Muslim League ask us to vacate the district,” said the Sanskrit scholar.
