Kolkata, 13 December (H.S.) :

International football superstar Lionel Messi on Saturday virtually unveiled his massive statue in Kolkata, marking a historic moment for his fans. Messi, attending the event from his hotel, appeared visibly emotional and delighted upon seeing the statue for the first time.

The event was made even more special by the presence of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who attended with his young son Abram Khan. Abram also posed for photographs with Messi, creating a memorable moment for attendees.

Messi’s statue has already garnered international attention, with several fan clubs abroad sharing its images. Renowned sports journalist Fabrizio Romano also highlighted the unveiling, calling it a historic occasion. Although glimpses of the statue had been revealed earlier, this was the first time Messi personally viewed it.

Expressing his gratitude, Messi said, “I am deeply honoured by this recognition. Being here gives me immense pride and joy. It is special to share this moment with my fans. This city holds a deep love and passion for the Argentina football team.” He also praised the craftsmanship and grandeur of his statue.

Shah Rukh Khan’s presence added further prominence to the event. He had arrived in Kolkata a day before Messi, sharing on social media that he was visiting not for the Kolkata Knight Riders but to meet Messi, keeping his word by attending the ceremony.

Fans’ excitement to catch a glimpse of Messi had been building since the previous night, with crowds gathering at the airport, hotel, and outside the stadium. Long queues formed well before Messi’s arrival at the stadium, reflecting the immense passion and admiration people in Kolkata hold for the football icon.
