
New Delhi, 13 December (H.S.): Political leaders from across India on Saturday paid heartfelt tributes to Padma Bhushan awardee Manohar Parrikar, the former Defence Minister and Chief Minister of Goa, on his birth anniversary. Remembering his life of simplicity, integrity, and dedication to public service, leaders hailed Parrikar as a statesman who embodied honesty and commitment to national duty.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari extended his respects, recalling Parrikar’s remarkable contributions to India’s defence and governance, describing him as a leader who combined intellect with humility.
Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat lauded Parrikar as a “symbol of simplicity, purity, and duty.” He said Parrikar’s life would remain an enduring example of integrity and commitment in Indian politics.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant paid emotional homage, saying, “He was a man whose simplicity inspired us, whose honesty grounded us, and whose vision continues to guide us even today.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath remembered Parrikar as an icon of humility and dedication. “He was a popular leader, a former Defence Minister, and a tireless public servant whose honesty and work ethic continue to inspire our path of national service,” he said.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described Parrikar as “an epitome of simplicity and duty,” noting that his life stood as a rare example of transparent, fearless, and principled leadership. She added that his decisive role in shaping India’s national security strategy, including during the surgical strikes, would always be remembered.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said Parrikar’s life reflected unmatched discipline and humility. “His dedication to national service and welfare will inspire generations of youth,” he said.Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also paid tribute, calling Parrikar “a paragon of purity and service,” and extended his respectful homage on the late leader’s anniversary.
Manohar Parrikar, an alumnus of IIT Bombay and famously known as “Mr. Clean” of Indian politics, served as Goa’s Chief Minister four times and as India’s Defence Minister from 2014 to 2017. He played a pivotal role in shaping India’s defence policy during the surgical strikes and passed away in 2019 after battling cancer.
