TN Government Posts DVAC Director as DGP In-charge

Chennai, 11 December (H.S.) : The Tamil Nadu government has appointed Abhay Kumar Singh, the current Director of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), to the additional charge of Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force (HoPF).

This decision was made as the incumbent officer for the post proceeded on medical leave. Mr. Singh, an experienced nineteen ninety-three batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, will take on the role temporarily to ensure the consistent functioning of the state’s police administration.

The necessity for this in-charge posting arose after the incumbent DGP and HoPF (in-charge), G Venkatraman, was granted earned leave for fifteen days.

As per a government order issued on December 10, Venkataraman's leave period commenced on December nine and will conclude on December twenty-three, during which time he will undergo necessary medical treatment.

The state government prioritised filling the temporary vacancy immediately to prevent any lapse in the crucial leadership of the police force.

A key official update from the administration confirmed the move and specified the tenure of the temporary charge. The authoritative government order stated, Abhay Kumar Singh, IPS, DGP/ Director, Vigilance & Anti Corruption, Chennai, is directed to act as Director General of Police/Head of Police Force, Tamil Nadu, Chennai (i/c) during the above said leave period.

This directive makes it clear that Singh will hold the in-charge position only for the duration of the current HoPF’s leave. He will concurrently manage his responsibilities as the Director of DVAC while overseeing the entire police force during this brief transitional period.
