Kolkata, 1 December (H.S.).

Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led administration, alleging that recruitment irregularities in West Bengal have now become “an established truth.” He made the remarks during a press conference while highlighting alleged discrepancies in the recent police recruitment examination.

Adhikari claimed that the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board conducted the constable examination amid widespread malpractice. He alleged that question papers were sold across the state—from Ausgram to Basirhat—raising serious questions about the credibility of the recruitment process. He also pointed to reports in various media outlets regarding irregularities in civic volunteer appointments.

Referring to Sunday’s police recruitment test, Adhikari said that neither the original OMR sheets nor their carbon copies carried serial numbers. Candidates were also not provided with the carbon copies. As a result, he argued, candidates possess no proof of their responses, leaving the Board with the freedom to manipulate results. He warned that the absence of serial numbers could allow authorities to change candidate identities or pass ineligible candidates.

Adhikari questioned the Board’s decision to withhold the carbon copies from candidates, stating that they were supposed to be handed over after the exam. He alleged that job-seekers across the state would agree that under Mamata Banerjee’s tenure, corruption and irregularities have become inevitable. He further accused the government of failing to provide employment to educated unemployed youth, urging them to raise their voices and assert—“No votes for Mamata.”
