Kolkata, 1 December (H.S.):
Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Monday accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of adopting a soft approach toward Islamic radical groups, warning that if she returns to power, organisations like Jamaat would gain unprecedented freedom to operate in the state. He alleged that radical elements have strengthened their base in border districts and are now expanding into other parts of West Bengal under the protection of the ruling party.
Adhikari claimed that the Trinamool Congress is headed for a severe defeat across large parts of the state, including Khejuri, Nandigram and East Midnapore, in the 2026 Assembly elections. He alleged that Mamata Banerjee has been indulging in appeasement politics and has failed to curb cross-border infiltration and the activities of groups linked to extremist networks.
He said that Hindus and other communities are facing a deepening crisis as the government is showing no interest in acting against forces allegedly collaborating with extremist organisations after entering India illegally.
According to him, only a strong nationalist government led by the BJP can counter such threats effectively.
Adhikari also targeted the state’s youth and education policies, alleging large-scale irregularities in the recently held teachers’ recruitment examination.
Several deserving candidates were reportedly left out of the interview list, and when they protested, they were met with police force. He alleged that the Mamata Banerjee government has failed to conduct even a single recruitment process without controversy and accused the TMC of running the state like a private enterprise. He said the time had come for the public to remove the government through peaceful democratic means.
He added that the people rejected the alleged authoritarianism of the Left Front in 2011, and the TMC has now proven “worse than that era.” According to him, every sensible citizen of the state is prepared to vote the current government out.
Earlier in the day, Adhikari led a massive “Parivartan Yatra” with thousands of supporters. He claimed that the march marks the beginning of the countdown to the end of the Mamata government and reaffirms the BJP’s promise to restore good governance, employment, development and fairness to all communities in West Bengal.
