Kolkata, 1 December (H.S.)
Preparations for the grand mass Gita chanting event scheduled at Brigade Parade Ground on December 07 gained momentum on Monday with a Kalash Yatra and Bhoomi Pujan ceremony held in Kolkata. The upcoming event is expected to draw nearly five lakh participants, making it one of the largest Gita recitation gatherings in the country.
The Kalash Yatra began in the morning from Dahi Ghat, where around one thousand devotees carrying sacred pots embarked on a grand procession. Monks, devotees, and volunteers walked towards the Brigade Parade Ground chanting mantras. Before the construction of the main event pavilion, the organisers performed Bhoomi Pujan as part of the traditional rituals.
The preparations are being led by Swami Pradiptananda, Swami Nirgunananda, Swami Bandhugauravananda and Swami Sarvananda. The organisers said that after the success of Gita Yagnas held earlier in Nabadwip, Kolkata, and Siliguri, the Brigade event is being planned on an unprecedented scale.
The organisers expect participation from monks across Assam, Tripura and Delhi, along with the possibility of saints arriving from Nepal and Bangladesh. They emphasised that the event has no political connection and is solely aimed at spreading the essence of Hindu philosophy among the masses.
Most of the permissions for the programme have been completed, according to the organisers. Preparations are also underway to distribute five lakh copies of the Bhagavad Gita in Bengali and Hindi during the event.
