Chennai Police Dismantle Interstate Painkiller Racket, Arrest Bihar Supplier

Chennai, 1 December (H.S.) : The Greater Chennai Police have successfully dismantled a major interstate network involved in smuggling painkiller tablets from Bihar, resulting in the arrest of nine individuals, including the key supplier who operated a medical shop. The crackdown was part of a city-wide directive from the Chennai Police Commissioner targeting illegal narcotics trade.

The operation commenced on the night of November 19 when a team from the Kodungaiyur police station, acting on a tip-off, intercepted eight suspicious individuals in the RR Nagar area. The police seized a substantial cache of 1,800 painkiller tablets intended for illegal sale and promptly arrested the suspects.

Investigations later revealed that three of the arrested individuals—Praveenkumar (23), Ranjith (28), and Subash (25)—are repeat offenders with prior criminal records for serious offenses, including multiple attempted murder cases.

Following intense interrogation and technical analysis, the police traced the source of the pills to a medical shop located in the Araria district of Bihar. A special team was dispatched to Bihar, where they collaborated with the local Araria Town police to apprehend the medical shop owner, Peros Risha (46), on November 28.

Authorities noted that Risha’s son, Fagadh Risha (20), is currently incarcerated in connection with a similar drug-related case filed by Araria police. Peros Risha was subsequently brought to Chennai on transit remand and is scheduled to be produced before a local court for further investigation.
