Guwahati, 01 December (HS): The BJP on Monday said the Congress is “panic-stricken” as the state government’s welfare-driven policies gain public support. Party spokesperson Ranjib Kumar Sharma in a press conference on Monday accused the Congress of thriving on unresolved issues, practising appeasement politics and neglecting tea garden workers while favouring big corporate houses.

Sharma said the Assam Fixation of Ceiling on Holdings (Amendment) Act, 2025, granting land rights to tea workers, has shaken the Congress, which he alleged once belittled them as “coolies”. He added that the BJP government is retrieving excess land from tea estates and redistributing it to workers, triggering celebrations across Assam.

He further said the decision to grant ST status to six communities will strengthen the state’s social fabric, claiming Congress leaders are now attempting to incite unrest. Sharma concluded that the Congress is “uneasy and rattled” by the BJP’s focus on genuine public welfare.---------
