South 24 Parganas, 3 October (H.S.):
A 16-year-old boy, identified as Bachchu Mondal, died tragically after being electrocuted in Baruipur’s Kabindapur area of South 24 Parganas on Thursday night.
According to local residents, the incident occurred when Bachchu, who worked at a local sweet shop, was standing on the roof of the shop owner’s house and speaking on the phone after dinner. He reportedly lost his balance and fell from the roof, landing on a live electric wire below. He was electrocuted instantly.
Hearing his screams, locals rushed to the spot and rescued him. He was taken to Baruipur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police sources said Bachchu hailed from Nolgora in Kultali, South 24 Parganas. He had moved to Baruipur a few months ago in search of work and had been staying at his employer’s house while working at the sweet shop. Locals claimed he was the sole breadwinner of his family.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. They are examining whether the roof had adequate safety measures and if the electric wiring in the area was properly secured. Bachchu’s family in Kultali has been informed, and his body has been sent for post-mortem.
