Nagon (Assam), 03 October (HS): In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling, Rupohihat Police of Nagon district seized a truck carrying 64 sacks of illegal Burmese (Myanmar) betel nuts during a operation.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the residence of Roumari native Nurul Amin and found the truck (Reg. No. GJ-23A-4871) laden with contraband. In a bid to evade detection, the smugglers had concealed the betel nuts under paddy sacks in what officials described as a “filmy style” of smuggling.

One person, Hasibur Rahman, son of Nurul Amin, was arrested on the spot. Police said the consignment is under scrutiny and further interrogation is underway to trace the larger smuggling network.

Authorities assured stern action against those involved in the illegal trade.
