Bhubaneswar, 3 October (H.S.) Popular Odia actor and former Member of Parliament Anubhav Mohanty has raised serious concerns over the shrinking screen space for Odia films in local theatres. Despite running houseful shows, several Odia movies have reportedly been removed to accommodate other regional and Hindi films.
Expressing disappointment, Mohanty described the move as an “injustice” to Odisha’s art, culture, and people. Taking to social media platform X, he appealed to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to intervene and safeguard the interests of the Odia film industry.
“On this sacred Dussehra, Odia cinema faced its darkest day – houseful Odia movies were removed from theatres to make way for other regional and Hindi films. This is gross injustice to Odisha’s own art, culture, and people. We humbly appeal to you to stand with the Odia Cinema Family and ensure that our films get their rightful respect and equal space in Odisha’s theatres,” Mohanty posted.
He further urged the state government to frame policies ensuring fair representation and screen allocation for Odia films in cinemas across the state.
