Baharampur police of Murshidabad district have arrested three young men, accused of gang-raping a girl on the pretext of taking her for puja pandal hopping.
As per information, the incident occurred on the night of Navami in Baharampur police station area. The matter came to light on Friday. Immediately after the incident, the girl's family filed a written complaint at Baharampur police station.
The Inspector Incharge of Police (IC) of Baharampur police station said, Based on the written complaint, the three men were arrested that night. When they were produced before the ACJM court in Baharampur on October 1st, the judge ordered them to be remanded to 14 days in jail. A medical examination of the girl revealed evidence of rape.
According to police and local sources, one of the three men was in a relationship with the girl. Because of this relationship, the man called her and invited her to visit puja pandals. The girl and the three young men went on a motorcycle to visit puja pandals in the area. Subsequently, the three young men were accused of taking the girl to a brick kiln on the banks of the Bhagirathi River and raping her.
That same night, when the kiln owner's driver brought two tractors to the kiln. Seeing the tractor drivers, the three young men fled. The drivers then rescued the girl and brought her to the local police camp.
That same night, the families of the three young men were called to the camp. Subsequently, the police detained the three young men. Later, upon receiving a written complaint, they were arrested.
