Srinagar, 07 August (H.S.): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday extended greetings to the weavers and craftspeople of Jammu and Kashmir and the country on the occasion of National Handloom Day, paying tribute to their outstanding contribution in preserving India’s rich cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship.

In a message shared through the Office of the Lieutenant Governor on X, the LG lauded the creativity, dedication and skill of handloom artisans, stating that their work reflects the country’s vibrant cultural identity and centuries-old traditions.

“On National Handloom Day, we celebrate the rich cultural heritage, creativity and craftsmanship of our weavers and craftspeople. Let us acknowledge and admire their invaluable contribution and resolve to preserve our handloom traditions while empowering the artisans who keep them alive,” the post read.

The Lieutenant Governor stressed the need for collective efforts to safeguard India’s handloom legacy while ensuring the economic empowerment and welfare of artisans whose craftsmanship continues to sustain the nation’s traditional handloom sector.

He reiterated that the handloom industry is not only an important source of livelihood for thousands of families but also a symbol of India’s cultural richness and artistic excellence. The LG called upon people to support local weavers and encourage the preservation and promotion of indigenous handloom products.

The message comes as National Handloom Day is being observed across the country to honour the contribution of weavers and promote awareness about the importance of the handloom sector in India’s cultural and economic landscape.
