Aug 6 (HS): Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has

suggested the 'Chhatraon Ki Goonj' programme for August 8, 2026, in Prayagraj,

with the primary goal of raising student voices against paper leaks,

irregularities in entrance examinations, and increasing fees.

Controversy

surrounding revocation of venue authorization: The event was supposed to take

place at KP College Ground (Kayastha Pathshala Trust) in Prayagraj, however the

booking has been cancelled. However, the Trust has canceled permission, citing

a previous Allahabad High Court decision, interruption of academic activity,

and the grounds being wet from rain.

Congress's

stance: Senior party leader, Shekhar Bahuguna and Uttar Pradesh Congress

President Ajay Rai claim that the BJP government, fearful of Rahul Gandhi, is

attempting to obstruct this event through administration.

Congress

leader Shekhar Bahuguna reaffirmed that, despite the revocation of permission,

Rahul Gandhi will still visit Prayagraj on August 8th and connect with

students, even if it meant sitting on the street or under the open sky.

Rahul

Gandhi is personally communicating with youngsters and hopefuls through this

countrywide effort on topics like as the NEET paper leak, anomalies in

competitive examinations, unemployment, and growing educational costs. Prior to

Prayagraj, Rahul Gandhi organized a similar 'Chhatraon Ki Goonj' mega rally and

student conversation in Kota, Rajasthan and Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The Congress

says that over 1.5 lakh students registered online for the event. A specific

barcode and registration link have been made available on Rahul Gandhi's

official website. Bahuguna adds that no matter what the government does, Cong

would continue to advocate for students' rights. Congress has contacted the

administration to seek an alternative site.

Following

this decision, the Congress party launched a frontal attack on the Bharatiya

Janata Party (BJP) and the state administration. Rahul Gandhi claimed on social

media that the administration is seeking to silence the students' voices and

halt their events, but he would support them. Congress, on the other side, said

that comparable roadblocks had previously been erected in Kota and Dehradun,

but the government was forced to cave in due to tremendous student

pressure. Shekhar Bahuguna claim that if

the administration does not zero in on the ground, they will organize this

event on the road to advocate for students' rights. Congress leaders have asked

the district administration to seek an other location.
