
New Delhi, 04 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed profound grief over the demise of Padma Shri awardee, eminent educationist, philanthropist, and former Governor of Tripura, Bihar, and West Bengal, Dr D. Y. Patil.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said, D. Y. Patil was at the forefront of serving society through philanthropy, particularly in the field of education. He always worked to improve the lives of others, especially the underprivileged.
Along with his message, the Prime Minister also shared a photograph from one of his earlier meetings with Dr Patil.
Dr D. Y. Patil passed away on Tuesday in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He was 91. A veteran Congress leader, he also served as the Governor of Tripura, Bihar, and West Bengal during his distinguished public life.
Dr Patil founded more than 180 educational institutions across the country, providing education to over one lakh students. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to education and social service, he was conferred the Padma Shri.
