New Delhi, 04 August (H.S.): The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday clarified that the Indian government has no connection with the event being organised by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia on August 5 and has no association with any remarks that may be made during the programme.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “The event is being organised by a private media organisation. The government has no involvement in it and does not endorse any views expressed on the platform.”

Sheikh Hasina, who was removed from power in Bangladesh following protests in August 2024, is currently staying in India. On the second anniversary of the uprising that led to the fall of her government, she is scheduled to deliver a virtual address on Wednesday.

This will be Hasina’s first public appearance in two years. She has announced plans to return to Bangladesh by December 2026.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh has warned media organisations in the country against making public statements or speeches by the exiled former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
