New Delhi, 15 August (H.S.): On the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, the Tricolour embarked on a symbolic journey across the world, following the path of sunrise. Under the ‘Suryapath Tiranga’ Global Relay launched by the Ministry of Culture, the national flag was hoisted sequentially at Indian missions and posts located across different time zones around the world.

The Union Ministry of Culture said the global relay was held from 1:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. IST on Saturday. During this period, the Tricolour was hoisted consecutively at 21 Indian missions and posts located in different countries, symbolically portraying the journey of the national flag from one part of the world to another with the first rays of the sun.

Under ‘Suryapath Tiranga’, the national flag was hoisted at designated Indian missions and posts at sunrise according to their respective local times. After the flag was hoisted at one location, the Tricolour was raised at the next mission or post further west. This created a visual representation of a continuous global journey of the Tricolour across different time zones.

According to the Ministry, the initiative is part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga 2026’ celebrations. Its objective is to take the spirit of India’s Independence Day celebrations beyond geographical boundaries and connect Indians living across the world, as well as friends of India, through the national flag.

The Ministry said ‘Suryapath Tiranga’ symbolises India’s unity, patriotism and global presence. Indian missions and posts located in different parts of the world participated in the initiative as ambassadors of the nation’s collective spirit.

The initiative has linked the sequence of sunrise and different time zones with the journey of the Tricolour. Beginning with the first light of day in the eastern parts of the world, the symbolic journey moves westward, carrying the message of a developed India, national pride and unity across the globe.
