New Delhi, 15 August (H.S.): Leaders and diplomatic missions from several countries extended their greetings to the people of India on the occasion of the country’s 80th Independence Day. The United States, Russia, Israel, Australia, Romania, Singapore, Finland and Sweden were among the countries that congratulated India, lauded its independence and democratic journey, and expressed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties in the years ahead.

The US Embassy extended Independence Day greetings to India, saying the country was moving forward while celebrating its rich heritage and remembering the foundations of its democracy. The United States said it looked forward to working with India to help build the future that the two countries would shape together.

Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed his Independence Day greetings to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov also extended his greetings to the people of India on the occasion of August 15.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog, on behalf of the State of Israel, extended greetings to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India on the 80th Independence Day. Referring to the growing friendship between India and Israel, he expressed hope that the relationship would be strengthened further in the future.

Australian High Commissioner Philip Green extended Independence Day greetings to all Indians. The Australian High Commission conveyed its message of friendship and respect for India by illuminating its premises in the colours of the Indian Tricolour — saffron, white and green.

Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also extended Independence Day greetings to India. Describing India as an important partner, the ministry said the expanded partnership between the two countries had entered a new chapter following President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Bucharest in July 2026. Romania expressed its commitment to advancing an ambitious bilateral agenda and expanding prosperity, security and opportunities for citizens of both countries.

Singapore conveyed its greetings to its Indian friends on the occasion of India’s Independence Day, describing India-Singapore ties as a strong and steadily advancing friendship.

The Embassy of Finland in New Delhi and the Consulate General of Finland in Mumbai also extended Independence Day greetings to India. From the Embassy of Sweden in India, Counsellor Mårten Frankby conveyed his greetings to the Indian people. He recently assumed a new responsibility at the embassy in the Economic and Trade Section.
