New Delhi, 11 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday shared a Sanskrit subhashitam highlighting eight essential virtues that can illuminate a person’s life and contribute to the development of a strong and virtuous character.
Sharing the verse on X, the Prime Minister wrote:
“Knowledge, good conduct, self-restraint, learning, courage, eloquence, charity according to one’s means, and gratitude — these eight qualities illuminate a person.”
Explaining the meaning of the verse, PM Modi said that knowledge guides an individual towards the right path, while good conduct helps preserve the purity of character. Self-restraint, he noted, instils discipline and helps a person remain steadfast.
He further explained that learning provides understanding, while courage enables an individual to remain firm in difficult circumstances. The ability to communicate effectively earns respect in society, he said.
PM Modi also emphasised the importance of giving according to one’s means and expressing gratitude for acts of kindness. According to the Prime Minister, these qualities together contribute to making an individual complete and enrich both personal character and social life.
