Oregon, 10 August (H.S.): India finished 27th in the medal standings at the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships with three medals after failing to add to its tally on the final day. The Indian contingent concluded its campaign with two silver medals and one bronze.

Javelin thrower Ashish Yadav won India’s first medal of the championships with a silver. Basant Kumar Meghwal followed with another silver in the men’s high jump, while Shahnavaz Khan secured a bronze in the men’s long jump to complete India’s medal tally.

Meghwal’s silver was India’s first-ever medal in the men’s high jump at the World Athletics U20 Championships.

Shahnavaz also created history by becoming the first Indian male athlete to win a medal in the men’s long jump at the global U20 championships.

The United States topped the overall medal standings with 18 medals, including 12 gold, seven silver and five bronze. Kenya finished second with 11 medals, comprising four gold, three silver and four bronze, while Italy secured third place with five medals, including three gold and two bronze.

Jamaica finished fourth with eight medals — two gold, three silver and three bronze. Australia and Ethiopia shared fifth place after winning six medals each.

France finished seventh with six medals, while China and Czechia occupied eighth and ninth positions with five and four medals, respectively.

India finished 27th with three medals — two silver and one bronze.
