
Guwahati, 08 July (HS): Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal on Wednesday chaired a comprehensive review meeting at Janata Bhawan to assess the functioning of the Assam State AIDS Control Society, Assam State Blood Transfusion Council, Food Safety Department, Drug Control Administration, and Birth and Death Registration system.
The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing schemes, quality of services, implementation of various programmes and future action plans. The minister stressed the need for better coordination and accountability among departments to ensure transparent, efficient and timely healthcare services for the public.
Focusing on food safety, Singhal directed officials to strengthen enforcement measures by conducting regular inspections of markets, hotels, restaurants, food manufacturing units and food business establishments. He also called for more effective food sample collection and testing, along with strict implementation of the Food Safety Act.
The minister further reviewed measures to strengthen drug regulation, improve blood transfusion services and enhance the efficiency of the birth and death registration system. He urged all departments to work with greater responsibility to ensure safe, accessible and quality healthcare services across the state.
The meeting was attended by Health Department Commissioner and Secretary Dr. P. Ashok Babu, National Health Mission Assam Mission Director Dr. Lakshmanan S., Director of Health Services Dr. Umesh Phangcho, Assam State AIDS Control Society Project Director Dr. Indraneshi Das and other senior officials of the Health Department.------------
