08 July (HS): Maharashtra Government has sought financial hel[p of Rs 13000
crore from the Centre for working out permanent solutions to Mumbai and Mumbai
Metropolial region, including development of basic infrastructure. flood control,
using modern techology, water security, transport system arrangements, and health
systems, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the Legislative
Assembly in response to a resolulion
moved under Section 293.
Fadnavis
stated that the system is being developed for draining out water from
flodd-affected regions in 30 minutes. Presently 547 pumps are deployed for the
puropose. and a total of 990 pumps from MMRD, Railways and other authorieis
have been deployed. Six major and ten mini-Pumping stations are operational,
nullah cleaning has reached 112 per cent and removingsils from Kithi River upto
83 per cent has been completed.
Because
of more rains than average received during the six days of July, the situation
has become more serious. The available machinery has done an excelled job in
this situation, he said. High Tides made the posed greater difficultiy.
