New Government Employees' Organisation Launched in West Bengal, Focus on Nationalist Values

Kolkata, 06 July (H.S.): A new organisation of government employees, Rashtriya Karmachari Seva Bharati, has been launched in West Bengal with the stated objective of promoting nationalist values among government employees and encouraging their contribution to nation-building.

The organisation was formally inaugurated at a programme held in Kolkata on June 28, during which its official website was also launched. While it has not received formal recognition from either the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), BJP leaders and RSS volunteers were present at the launch event.

State president Soumitra Roy said the organisation has applied for registration under the Societies Registration Act. He claimed that nearly 150,000 government and semi-government employees have expressed interest in joining through the organisation's website. District heads have already been appointed across West Bengal, and district-level committees will be constituted in the coming days.

The launch of the new organisation comes amid renewed discussions over employee associations in the state. During the Left Front regime, the Coordination Committee was the dominant government employees' organisation, while employees aligned with right-wing ideology were represented by the Paschim Banga Karmachari Federation. Following the change in the state's political landscape, several new employee organisations have emerged, including the Rajya Sarkari Karmachari Kalyan Sangh and the Sarkari Karmachari Parishad, West Bengal.

Speaking on Sunday, Debashis Shil, president of the Sarkari Karmachari Parishad, West Bengal, said the organisation was established in 2015 under the patronage of BJP leader Rahul Sinha. He clarified that the BJP does not officially recognise any employees' organisation and that his organisation also has no formal affiliation with the party.

The formal launch of Rashtriya Karmachari Seva Bharati took place at Jai Hind Stadium in Mahamayatala, Kolkata, on June 28. The event was attended by BJP leader Locket Chatterjee, senior RSS pracharak Pralay Talapatra, and several other dignitaries.

Outlining the organisation's vision, Soumitra Roy said it would function on four core principles—discipline, dedication to duty, service and nation-building. He said transparent and corruption-free governance could be achieved if government employees viewed their jobs as public service. He added that the organisation would seek to resolve employees' grievances through dialogue with the administration, reducing the need for protests or agitation.

Roy also said prospective members would first undergo orientation and training programmes based on the RSS's organisational framework before being granted membership. The organisation also plans to provide yoga and meditation training to promote a stress-free lifestyle among employees.

A resident of Midnapore town in Paschim Medinipur district, Soumitra Roy is currently serving as a Gram Panchayat Secretary and is also the West Bengal State Secretary of the BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha.

Meanwhile, Gangadhar Barman, a senior leader of the Coordination Committee, said discussions about the formation of such an organisation had been heard in recent days, but it has not yet become visibly active in the public domain.
