
New Delhi, 04 July (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid heartfelt tributes to Swami Vivekananda on his death anniversary, remembering the revered spiritual leader's immense contribution to India's cultural heritage, spirituality and national consciousness.
In a message shared on social media X, the Prime Minister said Swami Vivekananda played an unparalleled role in introducing Indian culture and spiritual values to the world. He noted that the monk's teachings continue to inspire millions, particularly the youth, to serve society with dedication and uphold the nation's values.
PM Modi said Swami Vivekananda's profound wisdom and inspiring thoughts remain as relevant today as they were during his lifetime. He added that the spiritual leader's vision and ideals would continue to energise the country in its journey towards achieving the goal of a developed India.
Swami Vivekananda, born Narendranath Datta on January 12, 1863, was one of India's most influential spiritual leaders and a chief disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa. He founded the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897 to promote education, social service and spiritual development.
He gained worldwide recognition after delivering his historic address at the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago on September 11, 1893. Beginning his speech with the now-famous words, Sisters and Brothers of America, Vivekananda received a standing ovation and introduced the world to India's philosophy of universal brotherhood, religious harmony and tolerance.
Swami Vivekananda passed away on July 4, 1902, at Belur Math in West Bengal at the age of 39. Despite his short life, his teachings on self-confidence, service to humanity, education and national awakening continue to influence generations in India and across the world.
Political leaders, spiritual organisations and followers across the country also paid tribute to Swami Vivekananda on Saturday by remembering his enduring message of unity, compassion and nation-building.
