Guwahati, 31 July (HS): Assam Agriculture, Irrigation and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika on Friday reviewed the flood situation and ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures in the Demow and Nazira Legislative Assembly Constituencies of Sivasagar district. He directed officials to give top priority to rebuilding houses, restoring essential services and supporting flood-affected farmers.

Earlier in the day, the Minister, accompanied by Cabinet Minister Sushanta Burgohain, inaugurated a community paddy seedling nursery at 2 No. Bhatgaj Gaon under Demow LAC. The initiative aims to provide quality paddy seedlings to farmers whose crops were damaged by the recent floods, enabling them to resume cultivation without delay.

Later, Hazarika, along with Sivasagar Guardian Minister Bimal Borah, chaired a review meeting in Nazira to assess the flood situation, relief operations and rehabilitation efforts. He instructed officials to immediately begin reconstruction of damaged houses and ensure the timely supply of bamboo, CGI sheets and other essential construction materials to affected families.

Describing Nazira as the worst-hit constituency, the Minister said rehabilitation there would receive the highest priority. He also directed the Health and Public Health Engineering departments to ensure safe drinking water, healthcare and sanitation in flood-affected areas, while asking the district administration to clean school buildings to facilitate the early resumption of classes.

Hazarika also reviewed the Agriculture Department's post-flood restoration plans, including crop loss assessment and the expansion of community nurseries. He will remain in Sivasagar for the next week to closely monitor rehabilitation work and agricultural restoration initiatives.----------
