MOSCOW, July 31 (HS/RIA Novosti) - About 49,000 migrants have illegally crossed the border between Morocco and Spain in the Ceuta enclave in the past day, Cadena SER radio reported on Friday.

According to the Spanish National Security Department's estimates, at least 7,000 of them are minors, the radio reported. The population of Ceuta stands at 83,000 as of the latest census.

On Thursday, thousands of young Moroccans gathered at the border between Morocco and Ceuta, prompting Spanish authorities to deploy additional police units, civil guard officers and military personnel to the city. The number of migrants who died in an attempt to cross the border has risen to 19, Spanish broadcaster RTVE reported.
