MOSCOW, July 30 (HS/RIA Novosti) - UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham is set to announce 8.4 billion pounds ($11 billion) in funding for the construction of four Dreadnought-class nuclear submarines, his office said on Thursday.

A major 8.4bn pound investment in the UK’s nuclear deterrent, delivering jobs and opportunity for young people for years to come, is set to be announced by the Prime Minister today, the office said in a statement.

Under the new phase, the first of the four submarines will complete sea trials and enter Royal Navy service in the early 2030s, according to the statement.

The new contract will also see boat two, HMS Valiant, reach sea trials and boats three and four progressing through their construction phases, it read.

In late June, the UK Defense Ministry published a long-term defense budget for the next four years, allocating nearly 300 billion pounds ($400 billion) to various defense areas. However, former Chancellor Rachel Reeves stated that 4.7 billion pounds of that sum remains unfunded, with the source of funds to be determined in the autumn budget.
