BEIRUT, July 30 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Israeli army artillery opened fire on an area in southern Syria, Syrian newspaper Al-Watan reported on Thursday.

Israeli forces reportedly shelled the outskirts of Tall al-Ahmar al-Sharqi in the southern part of Quneitra Province with artillery rounds, but there were no casualties.

Following the change of power in Syria in December 2024, the Israeli army took control of the UN-monitored buffer zone and a number of adjacent strategic positions in the south of the country, including the Syrian side of Mount Hermon. Since then, Israeli units have regularly carried out raids in the provinces of Quneitra and Daraa, set up temporary checkpoints, searched residents, raided homes and detained civilians.

Syrian authorities have repeatedly stated that such Israeli actions violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and have called on the international community to pressure Israel to withdraw its forces from Syrian territory.
