Mumbai, 30 July (HS):

The Meteorological Department has issued warning of heavy to very heavy rains

in several districts in Maharashtra. A red alert has been issued for Yavatmal

and Amravati districts in the Vidarbha region, an orange alert has been sounded

for Washim, Akola, Wardha, and Chandrapur, and yellow alert for Nagpur and

Buldana.

People have been advised not to venture near rivers

and canals, and sea shores.

The Met office has forecast heavy to very heavy rains

in six districts of the Vidarbha region. Vidarbha is likely to get less rains

during the month of August.

A red alert has been issued for Jalgaon district.

Heavy rains accompanied with string wind and lightning is likely to occur in

Jalgaon. The low-lying areas are likely to be inundated with heavy rains.

Similarly heavy rains have been forecast in Konkan

region. The wind speed is about 40 to 45 kmph in the Arabian Sea.

Roof tops of several houses in Gondia District’s

Arjuni Morgaon were blown away in the high speed wind current. Many trees and electric

poles were uprooted. Eight persons are reported to have received injuries.
