New Delhi, 29 July (H.S.): Former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Singh Thakur on Wednesday accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of politicising student-related issues, claiming that the future of students remained under constant threat during Congress governments. He alleged that during the Emergency period, the Congress sent students to jail and also used force against them.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament House complex, Anurag Thakur said that the Congress was merely engaging in politics over issues concerning students. Referring to the tenure of the Congress government in Rajasthan, he alleged that 17 out of 19 recruitment examination papers were leaked during its five-year rule, yet the then Education Minister was appointed as the state party president by the Congress.

Thakur accused the Congress of speaking about the interests of students while, according to him, the future of the country’s youth remained insecure during its periods in power.
