New Delhi, 29 July (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Indian weightlifter Harjinder Kaur and long-distance runner Gulveer Singh for winning silver medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026 and extended his best wishes for their future endeavours.

In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister praised Harjinder Kaur for securing the silver medal in the women's 69 kg weightlifting category. He noted that her performance was also a personal best, making the achievement particularly remarkable. He added that the outstanding performance of Indian weightlifters at the Commonwealth Games is a matter of great pride for the nation and wished her continued success in the future.

In another post, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Gulveer Singh for winning the silver medal in the men's 10,000 metres event. He described Gulveer's performance in Glasgow as outstanding and praised his commitment and dedication. The Prime Minister also conveyed his best wishes for Gulveer's future competitions.

It may be noted that Gulveer Singh won the silver medal in the men's 10,000 metres event in athletics, while Harjinder Kaur claimed silver in the women's 69 kg weightlifting category with a total lift of 227 kilograms.
