Kolkata, 29 July (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday praised the police action against an alleged sand mafia network in Birbhum district, asserting that the state government remains committed to a “zero-tolerance” policy towards corruption.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said that acting on a tip-off, Birbhum Police raided the premises of alleged illegal sand mafia operator Tullu Mondal alias Mohammad Najibuddin in the Mohammad Bazar police station area.

According to Adhikari, Rs 5.5 crore in cash has so far been recovered during the operation, while the counting of currency notes is still underway. Police have also allegedly recovered 15 kg of gold.

The Chief Minister praised the West Bengal Director General of Police, the Birbhum Superintendent of Police and all police personnel involved in the operation, describing their action as swift, professional and decisive.

Adhikari said the state government’s anti-corruption drive would continue and that “zero tolerance towards corruption” would remain a core policy.

He asserted that no person who has allegedly accumulated illegal wealth by misusing public resources and enjoying the protection of the previous ruling political establishment would be spared.

“Public resources belong only to the people,” the Chief Minister said, adding that those who loot public property would have to face the full force of the law.

He further stated that the crackdown against alleged mafia networks across West Bengal would continue and that those involved in illegal activities would face action under the law.
