Guwahati, 29 July (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Wednesday reviewed the prevailing flood situation in the state, with a special focus on the worst-affected districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat, during a high-level meeting held at Lok Bhavan.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, L Sweety Changsan, along with senior officials of the department and the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Officials briefed the Governor on the extent of flooding, affected population, relief camp operations, rescue efforts, restoration of damaged infrastructure and the measures being taken to assist flood-hit residents.

The Governor directed all concerned departments to ensure uninterrupted rescue and relief operations and stressed the need for timely distribution of relief materials, safe shelter, drinking water, healthcare and other essential services. He also called for special attention to vulnerable groups, including women, children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Emphasising close coordination among departments and field agencies, Acharya urged officials to minimise hardship for affected families and ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential services in flood-hit areas. He reiterated the importance of speedy rehabilitation of displaced families.

The Governor also lauded the efforts of district administrations, ASDMA, SDRF, NDRF, police personnel, healthcare workers, NGOs and volunteers for their dedicated service in rescue and relief operations, expressing confidence that coordinated action would help the state overcome the ongoing flood crisis.---------------
