Guwahati, 29 July (HS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday spoke to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma over the phone to review the prevailing flood situation in the state and the ongoing relief and rescue operations. He assured all possible assistance from the Centre for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction.

Sharing the update on Facebook, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Amit Shah took stock of the current flood situation and the measures being undertaken by the state government. The Home Minister sought details of the situation at all levels and reiterated that the Government of India would continue to extend all necessary support for relief, rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts.

The Chief Minister said the Union Home Minister reaffirmed the Centre's commitment to the people of Assam, noting that an inter-ministerial team had already been sent to assess the situation and that all concerned central agencies would continue to provide full cooperation.

Dr. Sarma also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Amit Shah for his concern, continued support and firm commitment towards the people of Assam during the ongoing flood crisis.-----------
