Silchar (Assam), 28 July (HS): In a major anti-narcotics operation, police apprehended two suspected drug peddlers during a raid conducted by the staff of Lailapur Police Patrol Post under Dholai Police Station at Bhitor Lailapur, near the Forest Gate in Cachar district.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Kamrul Islam Mazumder and Monir Uddin Laskar.

During the search, carried out in the presence of independent witnesses, police seized five soap cases containing 85.81 grams of heroin and 41 small plastic containers containing 1 gram of heroin. Officials also recovered 341.6 grams of ganja, 1,060 Burmese cigarettes (53 packets) and ₹1,620 in cash from their possession.

According to police, the estimated market value of the seized heroin is around ₹8.5 crore.

The accused, along with the seized contraband, have been taken to Dholai Police Station, where legal proceedings under the relevant provisions of the law have been initiated.----------
