Around 400 Persons with Disabilities engaged through

contractual employment; 100 undergoing skill training as Act Apprentices

An innovative initiative by North Central Railway towards realizing

vision of “Sugamya Bharat” and “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”

Prayagraj, 28 July (HS): In line with Prime Minister Narendra

Modi’s vision of “Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan” and the motto of “Sabka Saath, Sabka

Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas,” North Central Railway (NCR) has

achieved a significant milestone in the field of empowerment and inclusive

employment of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).

started his efforts since the beginning of the year and issued directives to

the three divisions for providing employment to Divyangjans wherever possible.

In tune with it, NCR has provided employment to more than 380 Persons with

Benchmark Disabilities (PwBDs) through various contractual engagements. This

initiative is a significant step towards promoting equal opportunity, social

justice, and inclusive growth in the true spirit of the Rights of Persons with

Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016.

Various contractual personnel are engaged by the NCR among

which around 400 are Persons with Disabilities working in diverse roles. These

include Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) Operators, Station Announcers,

Data Entry Operators, One Station One Product (OSOP) Stall Operators, and

several other customer service and operational assignments.

Notably, North Central Railway has not limited its efforts

merely to providing employment opportunities. In a further step towards

long-term empowerment and self-reliance, 100 Divyangjan youths are being

provided skill training under the Act Apprenticeship Scheme, thereby enhancing

their employability and future career prospects.

The initiative spans all three divisions of North Central

Railway—Prayagraj, Jhansi, and Agra—as well as various workshops and production

units. Of the total contractual PwBD workforce, 200 are engaged in Prayagraj

Division, a 100 in Jhansi Division, and 63 in Agra Division. Additional

opportunities have also been created in various workshops and production units

located in Jhansi.

North Central Railway’s commitment to inclusion is also

reflected in its regular workforce. At present, 784 employees with disabilities

are serving in the permanent cadre of NCR, including 15 employees recruited

during the year 2025–26. This demonstrates the organization’s sustained

commitment towards creating an inclusive and special ability-friendly

workplace.

North Central Railway remains committed to creating new

avenues for employment, skill development, and equal opportunities for Persons

with Disabilities and will continue to undertake focused initiatives in this

direction.
