Guwahati, 28 July (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reviewed the flood situation in Assam during a meeting with all 13 Members of Parliament from the state, reaffirming the Centre's commitment to providing all possible assistance for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction, BJP Assam Pradesh spokesperson Mita Nath Bora said.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed grief over the loss of lives in the floods, reviewed the ongoing rescue and relief operations and announced that financial assistance would be provided to the families of the deceased as per prescribed norms.

A five-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team, led by M. Ramachandru, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs' Disaster Management Division, is continuing its assessment of the flood-hit areas. The team is evaluating damage to crops, livestock, public infrastructure and the progress of relief operations to facilitate timely Central assistance.

The Assam Government has also intensified relief and rehabilitation measures, ensuring the supply of food, drinking water, medicines and other essential items while prioritising the restoration of roads, electricity and communication networks.

Meanwhile, BJP Assam Pradesh has announced a ₹12 crore humanitarian relief package for flood-affected families. Under the initiative, relief materials will be distributed to two lakh women and two lakh children. Women will receive traditional Assamese sarees and mekhela-sadors, while children will be provided with T-shirts and other essential clothing.

In a gesture of solidarity, the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and all MLAs of the Assam Legislative Assembly have decided to donate one month's salary to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, while Assembly officers and staff will contribute one day's salary.

With floodwaters gradually receding, the government has shifted its focus towards rehabilitation and reconstruction. Houses and public infrastructure damaged by the floods will be rebuilt through the Panchayat and Rural Development Department to ensure early restoration of normalcy and safe living conditions for affected families.-----------
