Guwahati, 28 July (HS): Flood conditions in Assam continue to improve as water levels recede across the state. However, according to the latest report issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), around 4,45,495 people in six districts remain affected by the floods.

The worst-hit districts are Sivasagar, Golaghat, Charaideo, Jorhat, Nagaon and Kamrup (Metro). A total of 631 villages under 21 revenue circles remain inundated, while 37,139.52 hectares of agricultural land are still under water. The cumulative flood death toll has reached 68, although no fresh fatalities were reported on July 27.

The Dhansiri River at Numaligarh continues to flow above the danger mark. The state government has intensified relief and rehabilitation efforts, operating 90 relief camps and 94 relief distribution centres, where 28,695 people are taking shelter and 51,777 others are receiving assistance.

Floods have affected 2,56,334 animals, while 26,679 livestock have reportedly been washed away. The disaster has also caused significant damage to homes, with 171 kutcha houses completely destroyed and 4,667 kucha houses partially damaged. Several pucca houses, cattle sheds and other structures have also suffered damage.

Rescue and relief operations are being carried out by the SDRF, NDRF, Army, Air Force, police, fire services and local administration. The government has deployed 179 medical teams and 67 boats, rescuing 59 people and 36 animals.

Authorities have distributed large quantities of relief materials, including rice, pulses, salt, mustard oil and cattle feed. Extensive damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure has also been reported, with the government continuing to review restoration and rehabilitation work.-----------
