New Delhi, 26 July (H.S.): Soon after assuming charge as the Union Education Minister, Pralhad Joshi has begun reviewing the functioning of the Ministry. On Sunday, he chaired his first high-level review meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Education, during which detailed discussions were held on the Ministry's key schemes, pending matters, and the roadmap for upcoming initiatives.

It is noteworthy that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post on Saturday following the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest and the student agitation at Jantar Mantar. Subsequently, Pralhad Joshi was appointed as the new Union Education Minister in the Narendra Modi-led Central Government.

Pralhad Joshi has previously held several key portfolios in the Union Government. He was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister for the first time on May 30, 2019. During that tenure, he was entrusted with the Ministries of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal, and Mines, responsibilities he discharged until June 2024.

Following the 2024 General Election, Joshi was assigned the portfolios of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, as well as the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. After taking charge of the Education Ministry, he signalled his intent to accelerate the Ministry's priority programmes and policy initiatives by convening a review meeting with senior officials on his very first day in office.
