New Delhi, 26 July (H.S.): Several states in northwest India are likely to witness widespread rainfall accompanied by strong winds during the next five to six days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Meanwhile, hot and humid weather conditions are expected to prevail over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam for the next two days.

According to the IMD, parts of Delhi-NCR are likely to receive light rainfall accompanied by strong winds between Monday morning and afternoon. The maximum and minimum temperatures on the day are expected to remain between 34-36 degrees Celsius and 25-27 degrees Celsius, respectively. Similar weather conditions are likely to continue on July 28 and 29, although fluctuations in maximum temperatures are expected.

It is noteworthy that light rainfall had been forecast in the national capital on Sunday. However, compared to previous days, Delhi witnessed bright sunshine, leading to a rise in humid heat conditions for local residents.

The weather department said that a low-pressure area is prevailing over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions of Odisha and West Bengal. It is likely to move northwestwards, intensify into a deep depression within the next 24 hours, and cross the northern Odisha and West Bengal coasts by Monday morning or afternoon.

Under the influence of this system, very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Odisha and Chhattisgarh on Monday. On July 27, parts of Gangetic West Bengal may also receive very heavy rainfall.

The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab between July 28 and 31. Western Uttar Pradesh is expected to witness widespread rainfall from July 28 to August 1, while eastern Uttar Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan are also likely to receive significant rainfall during this period.

Apart from this, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on July 27 and August 1. In central India, very heavy rainfall is likely over western Madhya Pradesh on July 27-28 and August 1, eastern Madhya Pradesh between July 27 and 31, and Chhattisgarh on July 27-28.

In eastern India, heavy rainfall is expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha from July 27 to August 1.

Northeastern states are also likely to experience widespread rainfall accompanied by strong winds during the next five to six days. Very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during July 29-30.

In western India, very heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch during the next five to six days. However, some areas may witness scattered rainfall activity.

Over southern peninsular India, widespread rainfall is expected in coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe between July 27 and August 1. Heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala, Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during the next six days. Strong winds are also expected at isolated places during this period.

Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to continue over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on July 27-28.

During the past 24 hours, very heavy rainfall was recorded in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat region and coastal Karnataka. Heavy rainfall ranging between 7 and 11 cm was reported from Himachal Pradesh, western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Assam.
