Islamabad, 26 July (H.S.): Security forces came under attack in two Pakistani provinces, while an attempt was also made to blow up a security check post. Pakistani authorities claimed that four militants were killed during the incidents. The attacks occurred in the restive provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the assault on the security forces' convoy. Reports also indicate that military personnel may have suffered casualties in the attack.
According to *The Balochistan Post*, unidentified armed men ambushed a large convoy of Pakistani security forces near Nushki village in the Batu area of Nushki district, Balochistan. Reports suggest that Pakistani soldiers were killed in the attack. The convoy, accompanied by bulletproof vehicles, was reportedly travelling towards Nushki city.
During the assault, the attackers also targeted police personnel accompanying the convoy. The vehicle of the Deputy Commissioner was damaged in the attack, although the official managed to escape unharmed. A similar attack near Nushki city two days earlier had reportedly claimed the lives of three security personnel. Pro-independence Baloch insurgent groups active in Nushki district have frequently targeted Pakistani security forces in the region. However, no organisation has yet claimed responsibility for the latest attack.
According to *Dunya News*, Pakistan Army's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that terrorists attempted to destroy a security check post with explosives in South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday.
The military stated that the attackers were intercepted before they could breach the security perimeter of the check post. A vehicle laden with explosives, driven by a suicide bomber, was stopped before reaching its intended target and was safely neutralised. The ensuing explosion killed the suicide attacker.
The ISPR said the timely response by the security forces prevented the attackers from achieving their objective. After the explosive-laden vehicle was destroyed, the remaining three militants fled to a nearby compound under covering fire. Security forces subsequently surrounded the building and killed all three militants.
