
Kolkata, 25 July (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday night condemned the attack on police personnel and journalists during the Cockroach Janta Party's protest in Kolkata and assured strict action against those responsible.
In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister described the attack as brutal and said several journalists injured in the violence were undergoing treatment at the state-run SSKM Hospital.
Adhikari said he personally visited the hospital, met the injured journalists and enquired about their condition. He also directed the authorities to ensure that they receive the best possible medical treatment.
I strongly condemn the brutal attack by miscreants on police personnel and journalists in Kolkata today, the Chief Minister said in his post.
He further stated that strict legal action would be taken against all those involved in the violence. The Chief Minister said he had directed the Kolkata Police Commissioner to identify the miscreants responsible for the attacks and initiate appropriate legal proceedings against them.
The protest witnessed clashes during which several police personnel and media persons sustained injuries while covering the agitation. The administration has launched an investigation into the incident.
