Prayagraj, 21 July (HS): The Wagon Repair Workshop, Jhansi,

has been honored with the prestigious GreenCo Gold Rating by the

CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) for its outstanding performance in the

fields of environmental sustainability and resource efficiency. With this proud

achievement, the Jhansi-based Wagon Repair Workshop has become the first and

only workshop within North Central Railway to receive the GreenCo Gold Rating.

Today, on July 21, the prestigious certificate was dedicated

to the General Manager of North Central Railway, Naresh Pal Singh, by the

Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, Anil Kumar Dwivedi, during a special

meeting held at the North Central Railway headquarters. The presentation took

place in the presence of all Principal Heads of Departments of North Central

Railway. Anil Kumar Dwivedi provided detailed information regarding this

achievement and the various aspects of the GreenCo assessment process.

Congratulating the entire team on this achievement, General Manager Naresh Pal

Singh stated that this honor stands as a testament to the Wagon Repair

Workshop, Jhansi's unwavering commitment to sustainable manufacturing and

environmental conservation. This achievement will contribute significantly to

realizing the vision of a 'Green Indian Railways' and meeting the Government of

India's national goal of achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions.

strengthen the organization's commitment to the environment and inspire it to

fulfill its social responsibilities in this regard. It is noteworthy that under

the GreenCo rating system, industrial units are evaluated against stringent

standards such as energy efficiency, water conservation, renewable energy,

reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, waste management, material conservation

and recycling, green supply chain practices, and green infrastructure.

Key Pillars of the Achievement and Innovations:

The Jhansi workshop has implemented several landmark

eco-friendly initiatives that formed the foundation for this rating:

1- Largest Rooftop Solar Plant in any IR Workshops: A 5 MW

capacity rooftop solar power plant has been installed at the workshop; it

boasts the highest capacity among all Indian Railways workshops and production

units.

2-Reliance on Solar Energy: Currently, approximately 80% to

85% of the workshop's electricity requirements are met by this solar power

plant.

3-Water and Waste Management: Effective rainwater harvesting

has been implemented, and the goal of zero groundwater usage has been achieved.

4-Green Campus and Environmental Conservation: The campus

has been made greener through the planting of over 5,000 trees and the

development of a Heritage Park.

5-Technological Innovations: State-of-the-art technologies

have been successfully implemented, including plasma cutting, automatic

grease-filling machines, CBC lock indicator mechanisms, digital procurement

systems, and solar-powered guard vans.

On this occasion, Divisional Railway Managers from the three

divisions and The Chief Workshop Manager (Wagon Repair Workshop, Jhansi), Ajay
