Becomes the First and Only Workshop in North Central Railway
to Achieve GreenCo Gold Rating
Prayagraj, 21 July (HS): The Wagon Repair Workshop, Jhansi,
has been honored with the prestigious GreenCo Gold Rating by the
CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) for its outstanding performance in the
fields of environmental sustainability and resource efficiency. With this proud
achievement, the Jhansi-based Wagon Repair Workshop has become the first and
only workshop within North Central Railway to receive the GreenCo Gold Rating.
Today, on July 21, the prestigious certificate was dedicated
to the General Manager of North Central Railway, Naresh Pal Singh, by the
Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, Anil Kumar Dwivedi, during a special
meeting held at the North Central Railway headquarters. The presentation took
place in the presence of all Principal Heads of Departments of North Central
Railway. Anil Kumar Dwivedi provided detailed information regarding this
achievement and the various aspects of the GreenCo assessment process.
Congratulating the entire team on this achievement, General Manager Naresh Pal
Singh stated that this honor stands as a testament to the Wagon Repair
Workshop, Jhansi's unwavering commitment to sustainable manufacturing and
environmental conservation. This achievement will contribute significantly to
realizing the vision of a 'Green Indian Railways' and meeting the Government of
India's national goal of achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions.
He further added that this certification would greatly
strengthen the organization's commitment to the environment and inspire it to
fulfill its social responsibilities in this regard. It is noteworthy that under
the GreenCo rating system, industrial units are evaluated against stringent
standards such as energy efficiency, water conservation, renewable energy,
reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, waste management, material conservation
and recycling, green supply chain practices, and green infrastructure.
Key Pillars of the Achievement and Innovations:
The Jhansi workshop has implemented several landmark
eco-friendly initiatives that formed the foundation for this rating:
1- Largest Rooftop Solar Plant in any IR Workshops: A 5 MW
capacity rooftop solar power plant has been installed at the workshop; it
boasts the highest capacity among all Indian Railways workshops and production
units.
2-Reliance on Solar Energy: Currently, approximately 80% to
85% of the workshop's electricity requirements are met by this solar power
plant.
3-Water and Waste Management: Effective rainwater harvesting
has been implemented, and the goal of zero groundwater usage has been achieved.
4-Green Campus and Environmental Conservation: The campus
has been made greener through the planting of over 5,000 trees and the
development of a Heritage Park.
5-Technological Innovations: State-of-the-art technologies
have been successfully implemented, including plasma cutting, automatic
grease-filling machines, CBC lock indicator mechanisms, digital procurement
systems, and solar-powered guard vans.
On this occasion, Divisional Railway Managers from the three
divisions and The Chief Workshop Manager (Wagon Repair Workshop, Jhansi), Ajay
Srivastava, attended via video conferencing.
